In order to compete effectively, organizations need to recruit and retain good employees, have their employees work hard on behalf of the organization, and draw on the experiences and expertise of employees to move the organization forward. Research has shown that job satisfaction plays an important role in maintaining well-staffed, vital, and healthy organizations that contribute to the bottom line as well as the personal well-being of employees.
Normative Express®, an exclusive collaboration between Amplitude Research® and the industrial/organizational program at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), provides employers with a diagnostic scoring system to gain a clearer picture of their workforce attitudes and can help pinpoint key issues and concerns that human resource managers may need to address.
Development of the Scoring Indexes:
BGSU is the creator and ongoing monitor of the well-known Job Descriptive Index (JDI) and Job in General Scale (JIG). The faculty who co-lead the JDI/JIG Research Group are all members of BGSU's doctoral program in industrial/organizational psychology, ranked third in the nation in 2005 by U.S. News & World Report.
BGSU started development of the indexes back in 1942. This effort was led by Dr. Patricia Cain Smith. Her development of the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) and Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS) are recognized as landmark contributions to the improvement of applied research and practice. The JDI Research Group continues to the present day and is active in efforts to research, refine, develop, and norm the instrument as well as a family of other organizationally-relevant measures (e.g., work stress).
