Do you use anonymous methods of data collection?
Yes. Amplitude's proprietary method of anonymous data collection provides survey respondents with guaranteed anonymity. This can result in more candid and reliable survey responses.

Can I customize the survey welcome and exit pages?
Yes. Clients can upload company logo for placement on the survey welcome and exit pages and insert a custom message. The actual employee survey questions cannot be modified in appearance. This provides uniformity in the response data among different users for application of the benchmarks.

How long is the survey in the field?
We keep the employee survey questions open for a maximum of 18 days, with 12 calendar days being the most common selection. Reminder notices are automatically sent out five calendar days after launch of the survey or the following Monday if the reminder date is a weekend.

How do I use the results to improve job satisfaction?
The scorecard of results pinpoints those facets in which an organization needs improvement. Use of custom sub-groups can provide further breakdowns by specific locations or other categories. Follow-up interventions can be targeted at under-performing areas, with subsequent survey administrations helping to identify if the interventions were effective.

Can I add text fields?
Yes. Up to three open-ended (text fields) questions can be added to the JDI/JIG survey instrument. The form of questions can be selected from our question library or a user can create entirely new questions.

Can I obtain the raw data?
Yes. Closed-ended results can be obtained in Excel format, without linkage to the individual respondents. Open-ended results are reported in collated format unlinked from the closed-ended responses to avoid instances of self-identification.

What can I expect the response rate to be? The unweighted average response rate is 58.77%. This is for both paper and pencil and Internet, and encompasses a wide range of data collection methods and participants. The lowest reported response rate is 28.07% and the highest is 97.93% with a large standard deviation. Organizations can influence the response rate by providing advance announcements of the upcoming survey and making sure that all employees have Internet access.

Why do you use 3-point scales instead of 5-point scales with the JDI and JIG?
BGSU has conducted numerous studies and reviewed studies by other researchers concerning the number of scale response options. Overall, there is no significant improvement in scale reliability or accuracy if the number of response options is increased. Furthermore, the use of fewer response options makes it easier for individuals with more limited reading abilities to complete the JDI and JIG. The 3-point response scale for the JDI and JIG is easy to use and provides useful data for interpreting employee job satisfaction.
Top
Can I compare the results among sub-groups unique to my company?
Yes. The sub-groups can be any breakdown such as plant location, pay structure, years of service, etc. Sub-group categories (such as a plant location) with less than five respondents is not reported to preserve respondent anonymity.

How long does it take to answer the employee survey questions?
The JDI and JIG portion of the questionnaire consists of 90 questions that can be answered in five to ten minutes. These questions are tied into the normative scoring indexes and are required on every questionnaire. There are also six demographic questions that will always appear at the end of the survey instrument (gender, age bracket, education level, tenure, managerial status, and level within the organization). Any open-ended questions or custom sub-group questions would be additional.
